BETTY POTTS 81, year old Woodward resident, died Monday, march 31, 2008 in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home
Betty Jeanne (Symes) Potts was born October 2, 1926 in Mutual, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of Clyde Albert and Wava Martha (Telford) Symes. She graduated from Mutual High School in 1944. After graduation, Betty was employed as a bookkeeper at Snow’s Implement and Hardware Store in Woodward where she met her future husband, Richard Potts. Betty and Richard were united in marriage on February 2, 1947 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They moved to California in September of 1947 where they remained until moving back to Woodward in April of 2003 because of Betty’s failing health. While in California, Betty worked for Mobil Oil and the Bank of America until the arrival of their first daughter, Debra in 1957 when she became a full time mother and housewife.
Betty donated many hours of service to the public library, DARE, American Legion Auxiliary, San Jose York Rite Commandry Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star of which she is still a member. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, but since moving back to Woodward, Betty occasionally attended the First Christian Church with her sister, Norma Ward. She enjoyed bowling and was league secretary for many years.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, two brothers, Kent and JC Symes and one sister Myrna Wene.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years Richard Potts of the home; two daughters, Debra Booher and her husband Ray of Austin, Texas; Pamela Holl and husband Leon of Manchester, Iowa; six grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Booher; William and Sara Potts; Valerie and Jesse Holl; one great-granddaughter, Auna Potts; three sisters, Bonnie Rountree of Tulsa; Norma Ward of Woodward; Hope Saksa of Watsonville, California; one brother-in-law, Kermit Potts of Wichita Falls, Texas; sisters-in-law, Wanda Potts of Woodward; Mary Potts of Manhattan Beach, California; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
