Joyce Read, 74 year old Greeley, Colorado resident and former Woodward area resident, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Greeley, Colorado. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 in the Elmwood Cemetery. The family will have visitation with friends and family on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Greta Joyce (Cooper) Read was born on October 29, 1934 in Slide, Texas to D. F. and Onie Lee (Johnson) Cooper. She was reared in Lubbock, Texas and attended school there. Joyce was united in marriage to Earl Ray Read on February 27, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico. They were blessed with four children, Glenda Joyce, Vickie Leona, Venita Carol, and Patricia Linn. The family made their home in Lubbock, Texas before moving to Amarillo, Texas in 1967, working in the restaurant business. In 1972 they moved to Gage where they ran the airport café and in 1982 they moved to Fargo. They made their home in Woodward in 1992 and lived there until moving to Greeley, Colorado in 2002 to be near her daughter, Patricia.

Joyce worked at several different jobs during her life but her favorite was at the Plains Indian and Pioneer Museum, where she loved using her amazing creativity. She retired from the museum in 2002.

Joyce was a member of the Fargo United Methodist Church. She loved watching her grandchildren grow up and enjoyed sharing and making memories with all her family

She is survived by her four children, Glenda Deviney and husband Jerry of Woodward, Carol Smith and husband Dale of Jasper, Texas, Vickie Read, Patricia Mount and husband Jack of Greeley, Colorado; a step-son Larry Read and wife Connie of Denton, Texas; one sister, Dorothy Jean Stephenson of Lubbock, Texas; a special brother-in-law, Finis Stephenson of Lubbock, Texas; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends from Woodward and surrounding areas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl Read on August 11, 1998, one sister and one infant grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Plains Indian and Pioneer Museum with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
