Isaac Evans Turner was born in Sussex county, Delawar, September 11, 1842, and died at his home in Woodward, April 20, 1917, aged 74 years, 7 months and 9 days.
In the early months of the Civil War he enlisted in the 89th Illinois Infantry and served three years. His regiment being in 26 battles in 23 of which Mr. Turner took part. For 18 months--just half of his period of service, he was in the hospital on account of poor health but most of that time he was able to render hospital service.
He was married December 25th, 1866 to Sarah E. Bissell to which union eight children were born, seven of whom survive him. His wife died August 4, 1915. The surviving children are H. T. Turner, Emmett, Idaho; Edgar Turner, of Higby, Missouri; R. A. turner of David City, Nebraska; O. M. Turner, Mrs. Sel Taylor, Mrs. Sarah L. Berger, and Mrs. Eleanor L. Mitchell, of Woodward; all of whom, except H. T. Turner, were present at the funeral.
Mr. Turner came to Woodward county in 1900 and took a homestead southeast of Woodward where his family resided till a few years ago when they moved to Woodward.
Mr. Turner had been a sufferer from rheumatism for more than a year past and a short time ago he was stricken with pneumonia which was the immediate cause of this death.
Funeral services were held at the Chenoweth-Tromblee parlors Sunday afternoon by Rev. J. W. Kendall, who paid tribute to the worthy character of the deceased. The casket was covered with flowers wrapped about with the Stars and Stripes for whose preservation Mr. Turner had given of his best years. After the services the body was taken to King's cemetery, southeast of the city for interment. Services were conducted at the grave by the G. A. R. assisted by Rev. Kendall.
