Obituary

Gilbert William "Gib" Wilson, age 89, died Thursday, June 29, 2000 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Walter Howard and Maud Parthenia(Wilkins) Wilson. As a young boy he moved with his family to Texas where he completed grade school in Lark, Texas. They later moved to Groom,Texas where he graduated from Groom High School, participating in all of the schools sporting events.

He began working for the Rock Island Railroad at age fifteen in the summers. He later joined the company full time, retiring after fifty years of employment as a Section Foreman.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance and Ways Union and had been a Deacon, Secretary/Treasurer, and Sunday School teacher of the Community Church of Meade for many years.

August 16, 1933 he married Annie C. Black at Panhandle, Texas. After their marriage they continued to make their home in Texas before moving to Meade,Kansas December 16, 1932. She precedes him in death, January 31,1997.

Survivors include; a son, Wendell and wife Jan Wilson of Woodward,Oklahoma; two daughters, Dorothy and husband C.R. Wilson of Liberal,Kansas, Charlene and husband Tom Largent of Palestine, Texas; a brother,Herman Wilson of Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Velma Hickox of Amarillo,Texas; eight grandchildren;twenty nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife; parents and two brothers, Loyd and Alva Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:99 p.m.Wednesday, July 5, 2000 at the First Baptist Church, Meade, Kansas with the Reverand Wayde Wilson presiding. Friends may call 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and 2:00 p.m.until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade, Kansas. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
