Greer County, Oklahoma

Created in 1886, this county was orginally formed by Texas, annexed to OK by court decision. So named by the legislature of the state of Texas in honor of Lieutenant Governor John A. Greer of that state. It was claimed as a part of the domains of Texas until 1895 when the United States Suprene Court decided that it was not a part of Texas, after which it was annexed to the territory of Oklahoma. An act of Congress on 4 May 1896 declared it Greer Co., OK. A fire in 1901 destroyed the court records.

Clerk of Court has marriage, divorce, probate and civil court records from 1901;
County clerk has land records.
