Historical Certificates Offered

The Ellis County Historical Society is announcing they will be offering two separate Historical Certificates to the families of Ellis County, Oklahoma.

A Pioneer Certificate will honor the direct descendants of Pioneers in the territory that became Ellis County ---dates before statehood 1907.

The Early Settler Certificate will honor the direct descendants of Settlers in Ellis County before the 1920 census.

Original Counties

bullettIn the early days, seven counties were outlined and were designated as the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Counties.

bullettThe first seven counties were Logan , Cleveland, Oklahoma, Canadian, Kingfisher, Payne, and Beaver.

bullettAs other counties were added, they were designated by letters of the alphabet. Finally, all counties were given names
    "K" Kay County
    "L" Grant County
    "M" Woods County
    "N" Woodward County
    "O" Garfield County
    "P" Noble County
    "Q" Pawnee County.
