Sam Dennis, night marshal of Harrison, Ark., killed Ed Lockett, who with Hudson killed Casey and Sims, the notorious outlaws in camp near Cleo two years ago, one night last week. The corner’s jury exonerated the marshal. Lockett bootlegged whiskey around Ringwood in this county and was arrested by the U. S. Marshal and thrown into the federal jail at Guthrie. At the suggestion of Sheriff Oates, the U. S. Marshal permitted Lockett and Hudson to have their liberty on parole, on condition that they were to seek the Casey gang and under the pretense of joining them, they were to turn them over to the officers or kill them. They succeeded in gaining the confidence of Casey, but found the most convenient way to dispose of him and his pal, was to get the drop on them and shoot them, which they did. It made good men of Casey and Sims but it didn’t reform Lockett and Hudson. Hudson was shot and killed in a town near St. Louis, not long ago, and Lockett has just died as above stated. The way of the transgressor is hard.
