The Hennessey Clipper
March 9, 1894

On Thursday night, March 1, thieves stole from the stable of A. E. Brown, six miles southwest of Hennessey, one bay horse, black mane and tail, 15 ˝ hands high and five years old, a fine driving horse. Also two fine large colts, also at the same time, but they got away from the thieves and returned home the next morning.
The same night a fine racing stallion, bright bay in color, eight years old and about 14-˝ hand high was stolen from D. R. Snyder’s stable just east of Mr. Brown’s farm. Mr. Brown offers $75 and Mr. Snyder $25 reward for the thieves and horses.
It is supposed some of the same gang stole a set of harness from W. C. Brown, just southwest of Hennessey the same night.
While lying in his granary asleep that night Robert Hedgecock was aroused by a noise at his stable and called out “what do you want?” Immediately five shorts were fired into the granary at short range, one ball taking effect in his leg. The robbers left without taking any of his horses.
These depredators are getting pretty bold and it wouldn’t be surprising if the readers of the Clipper would get to hear of a “lynching bee” if the parties are caught.
