Marshal J. W. McKeever showed us a letter he received last night from Okeene giving the details of the finding of a murdered man in the strip about twenty miles west of here The facts are as follows:
Mr. De Long found the body on the evening of October 25th.
A corner stone on which were the letters “C. C. L.” was in a coffee sack, which was tied to his feet. Officers and citizens took him out of the creek. The corner stone was taken from two miles south of Deep Creek and one mile west of the Cimarron River. The corner stone was identified and sworn to by a man who had run across it with a mowing machine. There was bullet hole above the left eye of the murdered man, made by a forty-four ball. The hands were tied across the breast and a half-inch rope about ten feet long was around his neck. The tail of his coat was cut off all around and part of his vest was also cut off. It the crime was not committed for money, it was intended to convey the idea of robbery as one pants pocket and one coat pocket were turned inside out. The murdered man was about five feet ten inches high, and thirty or thirty five years old. He is thought to have been a German; is light complected, has a small face, sandy whiskers all over the face and small scattering moustache. The body was taken out of the creek on the evening of the 25th to the residence of Mr. Felder a half mile from the Cheyenne line.
