Anadarko-- Another battle between outlaws and Caddo County officers occurred on the banks of the southern Canadian River, not far from this city. Recently there have been many depredations committed in the southwestern Oklahoma by horse thieves and the officers have been on the alert for some time attempting to catch the bandits.

Sheriff Jim Thompson, the successor of Sheriff Smith, who was murdered by the outlaws, together with Deputy Sheriff J. W. smith, surprised and raided a bank of horse thieves, strong in number in a pasture where the outlaws had rounded up a bunch of stolen animals. The battle that followed was short and decisive and this time the sheriff won. The bandits were captured and their horses and arms confiscated.

Among the captives is one who gives his name as Charles Johnson, thought to be no other than the desperate Mexican outlaw and horse thief for whom President Diaz has offered a big reward. He is reputed to be a very dangerous character. Neither of the sheriffs were wounded.

The citizens of Anadarko and vicinity are delighted over the capture of Johnson and the gang. They have been so bothered by thieves and bandits that they are ready to shout when one of the band is captured. When Thompson and Smith entered the city with their prisoners the officers were given an ovation.
