Morris, March 3—-A car parked on a downtown Morris Street without a license plate caused considerable excitement and led to the hasty organization of a heavily armed posse recently.
Police Chief I. Z. Thompson had visions of a bank robbery or a desperate criminal in town after he noticed the car. Recruiting a posse of citizens he armed them with shotguns and revolvers.
Part of the vigilant group was delegated to watch the car while, Thompson led another heavily armed party on a search of the roads near Morris on the supposition the criminal might have struck off afoot across country.
A highway patrolman was called from Okmulgee.
As preparations were completed for “shooting it out” with the desperado or bank robber, Carl Mumsey, owner of the car, walked calmly over to it. Immediately the pose was on the alert and covered with guns.
