| Perry Enterprise-Mrs. Hatch came in from Ponca City today. There is nothing strange in this except the fact that she is the mother of Clyde Mattox who was sentenced to death for murder committed at Oklahoma City. This sentence was changed to life imprisonment by President Cleveland, an he afterwards was granted a full pardon by President McKinley, all though the efforts of his mother who was one of the first settlers of Perry. She informs us that Clyde now has a position at Hominy Post, Osage Nation which he is holding down at the rate of $40 per month, and that she is as happy and contented as she looks. No mother ever worked harder for the release of her son that she did, and she fully deserved the success her efforts met with. We hope the son may rove a help and comfort to her in her declining years. |
