Lt Coit Hendley, commanding officer of L.C.I.(L) 85. Coit had been the XO on the 94 prior to being made skipper of the 85. He was the associate editor of the Washington Times until the time of his death. He was awarded the Silver Star and the French Cross for his gallant actions on D-Day in Normandy.
