Ardra Behrens

Ardra Behrens, 92, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1993, at her home in Summerville.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel with Pastor Irwin Smutz of the Imbler Christian Church officiating. Committal and interment will follow at the Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Behrens was born on Jan. 4, 1901, to Ishmeal W. and Mary L. (Childers) Littreal in Summerville. She graduated from Imbler High School in 1919 and went on to attend one year at the Monmouth Teacher's College. She returned and taught for one year at the Iowa School District. On Nov. 13, 1924, she married Arthur Frank Behrens in La Grande. He died on Oct. 20, 1989.

Mrs. Behrens was a member of the Summerville Christian Church and enjoyed riding horses, canning, gathering huckleberries and handwork.

Survivors include her daughter Margaret J. Yates of Summerville; granddaughter Linda J. Goode of Bremerton, Wash.; five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

Brothers Guy and Ira Hobson and sisters Effie Hobson, Ruth Littreal Rollins, and Margaret, Mary and Hattie Duggan died earlier.

Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital or the Child Development Rehabilitation Center in care of Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande 97850.

Arthur Behrens

Arthur F. Behrens, 90, Summerville, died Friday at Grande Ronde Hospital.

Mr. Behrens was born Aug. 23, 1899, in La Grande, to August and Margareth (Kelin) Behrens. He married Ardra I. Littreal Nov. 13, 1923, in La Grande. He spent his life farming and ranching in the Grande Ronde Valley.

Mr. Behrens was a member of the Elgin Masonic Lodge for more than 60 years. He was a member of the Oregon Wheat League and the Oregon Cattlemen's Association and was Cattleman of the Year in 1976.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and horses, especially his palominos, and broke many horses for people.

Survivors include his wife, Ardra, Summerville; a daughter, Margaret J. Yates, Summerville; one granddaughter; five great grandchildren; a brother, Fred Behrens, Summerville; sisters, Nellie Teeter, Imbler, and Ruby Patterson, Hood River; and other relatives. A brother, Edwin Behrens and a sister Eda Weis, died earlier.

A service for Mr. Behrens will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Irwin Smutz of Imbler Christian Church will officiate.

Masonic services will be conducted by the Elgin Lodge of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Committal and vault interment will follow at Summerville Cemetery.
