Cynthia Baxter
writes:
I'm thinking that J.W. Baxter is Joseph William Baxter, Jr., his wife,
Gladys Christina Bowthorpe and the baby in question is Edwin Reynolds Baxter,
born May 18, 1912 in Union. He later married Oreta Combs Baum, born April 11,
1913 in LaGrande who is listed in the Who's Who of American Women. Fifth
Edition, 1968-1969. Wilmette, IL: Marquis Who's Who, 1967. (WhoAmW 68) ...in
case anybody wants to look that up.
Joseph William Baxter Jr. is the son of Joseph William Baxter and Mary
Neilson who emigrated from Utah around 1907, via Idaho. Altogether they had 11
children, the last two being twins, a boy and girl. The boy is my husband's
grandfather!
The Baxter line goes straight to the Mayflower by marriage to Temporance
Gorham, daughter of Desire Howland, daughter of John Howland and Elizabeth
Tilley (Mayflower passengers).
Thanks for the opportunity to share!
Cynthia Baxter

Wife and new arrival doing well but it was a close call for Charley. However,
those capable of judging of his present condition think he will recover.
We venture the assertion that Union "kids" cannot compare favorably with
the last addition to our population and although we seldom "buck the tiger"
we will put up a "bobtailed yaller dog" against the wager offered by the
"happy dad" of Union, that this is the superior production of the county
and show up with him on the summit of Lyon's hill, as soon as Charley is
able to travel.
