In the passing of Max S. Bloch on Sunday night Oregon lost one of its well-known pioneer business men, one who had engaged in the mercantile business in La Grande for more than 50 years. Mr. Block was esteemed by his many friends in La Grande, where he settled when about 18 years of age and where he became a factor in the business world in the half century he was in Oregon.

Mr. Bloch was born in Germany, but came to America when a lad and chose Oregon as his home. He was a member of the Masonic and other fraternal organizations. His death occurred at 7 o'clock Sunday. He had been in the city but a few days in search of health. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. M.S. Bloch of La Grande, a son, W.W. Bloch, of 300 East Thirty sixth street, Portland; two other sons, Milton S. Bloch, an architect of la Grande, and Dave E. Bloch, an advertising man of New York City, and a daughter, Stella Bloch of La Grande. The funeral services will be held at Homan's at 2 p.m. Wednesday with burial at Beth Israel cemetery - officiating will be Rabbi Jonah B. Wise and the Masonic order. - Oregonian.
