Baker, Dec. 29, 1930--Mrs. Floyd Baisley, 24, died Saturday night at 11:15 in the Protestant hospital, where she was taken December 21 for treatment.

        Lola Dorthea Peterson was born in Burns June 28, 1906 and spent the most of her life there.  She came to Baker about six years ago and attended school here.  Mrs. Baisley was the daughter of Ida and P.C. Peterson.  She was married about five years ago to Floyd Baisley, who operates a farm in the Wingville section.  Mr. and Mrs. Baisley lived at 2530 Church street.

        Besides her husband, the deceased is surved by a daughter and a son.  The body was taken to Burns last night by train for interment.

Former Resident of Imbler Dies

Mrs. Keith Glenn, Summerville, received word that her sister, Hattie Bell, of Hood River, has died.

The deceased was born Jan. 11, 1896, at Millersville, Missouri, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kasinger of La Grande. As a child, she moved to Oregon in 1905, and to Imbler in 1912, where she was raised.

Survivors include sons, Albert, Odell, Carl, Spokane, Wash.; Steven, Portland, a daughter, Bonnie Rodgers, Spokane, Wash.; 22 grandchildren; five sisters, Lillie Fehr La Center, Wash.; Floy Davis, San Francisco, Calif.; Bessie Ruckman, Oakland, Calif.; Hester Glenn, Summerville; Lola Wright, San Mateo, Calif.

One son, and two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services and internment were at Hood River, will be on Aug. 29.

  [The above was given to me by a grandson of Hattie, via E-mail. It bears out, at least in facts. She was one my father's older sisters. Hattie was a frequent visitor to La Grande while her parents still lived.]

Berry, Mrs. Anita W. Berry, age 59 years, of Ferndale, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, Dec. 15, following a short illness. Mrs Berry was home economics instructor at Ferndale High School and a member of the First Methodist Church of Kelso; the Bellingham A. A. U. W., the National Educational Association and the Alpha Chi Omega. She is survived by one
son, Robert W. Berry of Cambridge, Mass.; two daughters, Miss Mary Lou Berry of Longview and Mrs. William P. Beall Jr. or Berkeley, Calif.; her mother, Mrs. Mary Worth of Longview. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 17, at 4:30 P. M. within the Cathedral Chapel of Westford Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Martynse, pastor of the United Church of
Ferndale, officiating. The remains will be forwarded to LaGrande, Oregon,
for interment.

Harry P. Billerbeck

Summerville - Harry Paul Billerbeck, 60, Summerville, died Tuesday in St. Helens of a heart attack. He was in St. Helens as a superintendent of a job in progress for A. J. Zinda Construction Co.

Born in Rockford, Wash., he moved with his family to Wallowa County at the age of six. He attended schools until he began farming in 1929. After marriage to the former Bernice Slack of Enterprise in 1935, he moved to Union County to farm, later purchasing a farm here. Twelve years ago he went to work for the Zinda firm as a millwright.

Survivors include widow Bernice; son Darrel, Elma, Wash.; daughter Mrs. Joyce Brown, Kent, Ore.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ellis Billerbeck and a sister, Evelyn Lovell.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel, La Grande, pastor Paul O. Jewell, La Grande United Methodist Church, officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel until 2 p.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorial contributions for those who wish to Oregon Heart Association, 1500 SW 12th Portland.

Roy Bills

Roy Bills was born in Seymore, Iowa, November 27, 1881, and was therefore 25 years old on the day of his death. He came to this city with his parents in 1897. Prior to his death he held a position of trust in the Post Office. He was a boy of good habits and his death is mourned by a large circle of friends. he leaves a father, mother, sister, brother and other relatives in this city who are grief stricken in losing one who had barely started on life's journey.

The funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. D.S. Smith and the remains were interred in the city cemetery under the auspices of the W.O.W. of which he was a member.

The sympathy of all is given to the bereaved.

DIED - At La Grande, on the 30th inst., Freddie, son of P.S. and Almeda Black, aged 2 years, 4 months and 28 days.

L.J. Blackledge Killed

A terrible accident resulting in the death of L.M. Blackledge occurred at Imbler Friday of last week. The particulars as learned are that Blackledge drove into town from a nearby farm and stopped his team by the planing mill. The horses became frightened and started to run. The owner, who was standing directly in fromt of the wagon tongue, grabbed them by the bits and with a lunge the horses sprang forward knocking him down. The wagon passed over him crushing his ribs. Drs. Whiting of this city, and Molinor, of La Grande, were summoned and everything possible was done to relieve his sufferings but to no avail and the unfortunate a few hours after the accident died.

Deceased was 63 years old and had resided with a Mr. Bingham, near Imbler. He had no relatives living in this section but had a son in Iowa who was immediately notified of the death. The remains were interred in the Summerville cemetery.

MRS. ELI BLAIR
Death of Another Pioneer

The death of Mrs. Eli Blair occurred at her home in Island City, Sunday, March 25, 1906. Deceased was 68 years old and was one of the honored pioneers of Union county, having moved here in the early sixties. She had resided in Island City since 1879.

By a former marriage to Mr. Thomas she became the mother of five children: Mrs. Sarah Quimbey of Portland, H.A. Thomas, of Elgin, Mrs. T.R. Sheperd of Bellingham, Wash., William Thomas, of Island City and Mrs. E.R. brooks, of Bodie, Cal.

For several months she had been in poor health and gradually grew weaker until death came to relieve her sufferings. Her memory will ever be cherished by thos who knew her, and her bereaved family has the sympathy of all.

The remains were laid to rest in the Island City cemetery Tuesday afternoon.

Death of W. B. Blakeslee

W. B. Blakeslee, a former resident of Union, died of heart failure at Halfway, Oregon, May 6, 1915. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Blakeslee, former residents of this pace, and leaves a wife and six children. Mr. Blakeslee will be remembered by many of our older settlers. Surviving his is his mother, Caroline Blakeslee, age 87 years, who resides with her daughter at La Grande; two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Hall, now a resident of Hermiston, Oregon; Mrs. J. R. Oliver, of La Grande; and one brother, Dr. Lynn Blakeslee, of Los Angeles, and six grand-children, Claribel and Ursula Gray, of Halfway, Stella Blakeslee, of Portland, Vivian, Richard and Winifred Blakeslee, of Paradise, Nev. The Republican is indebted to the Halfway Herald for these facts.

Cora R. Bloom Funeral Rites Set

Mrs. Cora R. BLOOM, 80, a housewife residing at Cove, died at a La Grande hospital on Wednesday, July 24, after an extended illness.

Funeral services, arranged and directed by Daniels Funeral Home, will be held at Cove Methodist church on Saturday at 2 p. m. The Rev. Ralph Ohling will officiate and burial is to be in Cove Cemetery.

Mrs. BLOOM was born in March, Wisc.; on September 4, 1876. She had been a resident of Cove since 1894. Her activities included Methodist Church, Wild Rose Rebekah Lodge, WSCS and Cove Widows Club.

Survivors include sons Haskell of Stanfield; Edward, of Cove; daughters are Mrs. Violet GORHAM, Cove, and Mrs. Miskell GALE, Union. A brother S. M. VANN, lives at Cove as does a sister, Mrs. Delo GAUTHIER. Thirteen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Jemimah Boly
Death Of Grandma Boly

Mrs. Jemimah Boly, one of the aged pioneer settlers of this section, died at her home on the Flat, Sunday morning at 7 o'clock. She was born in Missouri in 1818, and in company with her husband and children emigrated to the Pacific coast at an early day. She was the mother of 12 children, only four of whom survive her. She had been a conscientious member of the Christian church for many years, and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Benton, pastor of the Christian church here. She was laid to rest in the Elk Flat cemetery, by the side of her husband who passed away many years ago.

BOOTHE: - In this city, Friday, November 4, 1892 Rev. L.J. Booth, aged 72 years.

Mr. Boothe was one of the oldest and most respected pioneers of Eastern Oregon and has been a resident of Union for a number of years, and has been a Baptist minister for 42 years. He had been ill for over a year and his death was not unexpected. The funeral services were held Sunday morning. The sermon was preached by Rev. A. LeRoy at the M.E. Church, and the burial exercises were under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, of which the diseased was an honored member. A large number of friends followed the remains to their last resting place.

Deceased was a prominent G.A.R. man, being at the time of his death Post Commander of the lodge of this city. He was buried in the Union cemeetery Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Brasher Dead

Mrs. Thomas Brasher, aged about 40 years, died at Hot Lake Sanitarium Monday evening of this week. Mrs. Brasher was a resident of Union vicinity and was well known in this section. The funeral was held at Union Tuesday afternoon.

WOMAN HIT BY CAR ON N.P. VIADUCT DIES

An auto accident, unobserved by local people at the time, occurred a week ago Sunday on the railroad viaduct on the Old Oregon Trail at the edge of North Powder which caused the death of Mrs. Augustine Brichoux of Baker. It is said she was standing near a car on the viaduct, when another car, in passing struck her, knocking her down and fracturing her skull. She had been unconscious most of the time until her death, which occurred at the St. Elizabeth's hospital Tuesday of this week.

According to the Baker papers Mrs. Brichoux was born at Placerville, Ida., July 31, 1865. She was brought to Rye Valley by her parents when she was three years old. She lived there 16 years, moving then to Sutton creek, near Baker where she lived until 1899. She has been  living on a ranch at the west end of Cambell street, this city, for some years.

She is survived by a son, C.A. Koehler of Baker, a brother, Dave Brichoux of Salem, four grandchildren, four nieces and a nephew.

MRS. ELLA BRITTS

Funeral services for Mrs. Ella M. BRITTS were held Saturday at the Snodgrass chapel. Rev. Clarence A. Kopp officiating. Interment was in the Masonic cemetery. She had been ill a long time.

She was born at Chippewa Falls, Wis. December 20, 1866, and came to La Grande 53 years ago. He survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Shirleigh TUCKER of La Grande; two grandsons, Shirleigh Jr. and Donald TUCKER, both of whom are with the armed forces.

Passing of Mrs. Mary J. Brooks

Mrs. Mary Jane Brooks, age 81, died at her home near Imbler Saturday evening, February 19, 1927. She was an old and respected pioneer, having lived in Union County fifty-three years. She is survived by her husband, S. L. Brooks; four daughters-Mrs. Ida Hawley, Mrs, Richard Bidwell, Miss Anna Brooks, Mrs. Stella Huron, one son-Wade Brooks and a host of friends who extend sympathy to the bereaved family. Funeral was held at the Summerville chapel Tuesday. February 22, 1927 at 111 o'clock a. m. Rev. W. H. Bleakney of Walla Walla, former pastor of Summerville church, and an old time friend for thirty years, conducted the services. Inerment in the Summerville cemetery.

Mrs. Bryant Dead
Well Known Citizen of This County Indigestion Victim

At 1:15 this morning Mrs. J. A. Childers Bryant, aged 68 years and 12 days, died at 1514 Jefferson of acute indigestion.

The deceased was born in Wayne county, Iowa, April 26, 1848 and was married to J. A. Childers, Jan. 6th 1878. Mr. Childers died in 1893.

The funeral will be held from the Christian church Thursday at 2 o'clock preceded by a short service at the home at 1 o'clock.

She was the last family of 10, and her parents are both dead. Her children who survive here are Grace and Joenna, the former of this city and the latter formerly of Portland.

Mrs. Bryant was a pioneer Oregonian. She came to the Willamette valley in 1863, coming west with an ox team train. After living there for a time the family moved to the Grande Ronde valley and Mrs. Bryant made her home in this county continuously since that date.

HEAD CRUSHED TO PULP
J.G. Burke Meets Instant Death on Monday

J.G. Burke, in the employ of Mr. Peterson, a railroad subcontractor, was instantly killed Monday afternoon near the mouth of the Looking Glass river. Burke was in the act of cutting limbs from a tree that rested on the side hill, and in doing so, released the holdings of the huge timber. It is supposed he realized his danger and sought safety under another log but was caught before he reached it.

Burke's brains were literally crushed out. The skull was crushed as if an egg shell. When found at 3:30 p.m. he was pinioned to the ground, life being extinct for some time.

The remains were removed to this city Wednesday morning. Deputy Coroner S.M. Coff empanneled the following jury to inquire into the death: D. Sommer, W.D. Graves, Wm. Fine, H.H. Hug and J.C. Austin.

Word was received last evening that Burkes parents live on a farm near weiser. The jury will examine witnesses today.

Lulu Burnett

Lulu Maude Burnett, 93, of 701 4th St., died Thursday in Portland.

The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church.

Mrs. Burnett spent her entire life in La Grande. She was born here on Oct. 16, 1882, the daughter of Martha and [John] Denzil Ackley. She married Oliver Burnett Oct. 21, 1900. He died in August of 1930.

Mrs. Burnett was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church and was the oldest living Gold Star Mother. She was chosen to dedicate the flag pole in the Veteran's section of  Grandview Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Lois) Martens of Portland, and Mrs. Robert (Crystal) Fossum of Orem, Utah; four sons, Lynn of West Point, Calif., Earl of Hermiston, Howard of Portland, and Dallas of Long Beach, Calif.; three sisters, Faye Ryckman of Oregon City, Velva Cornforth of Boise, Idaho, and Carrie Glascow of Jefferson. There are 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-granchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Coffey's Funeral Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel until Monday noon. Rev. Jack Hart will officiate at the services. Vault interment will be at the Grandview Cemetery.

Tom Burns Dead

Bob Haines received word Wednesday of the death of Tom Burns, a former resident of North Powder who has been in Sacramento, Cal., the past 5 years. The message stated that Mr. Burns would leave Thursday with the body and interment would be in the North Powder cemetery.

Mr. Burns is well remembered here, having been in the pool hall business in this city.

Funeral services over the remains of Tom burns, former resident of this locality, whose death occurred in California, were held Sunday afternoon with Rev. Grissom officiating. Interment was in the North Powder cemetery. Mrs. Burns and her daughter accompanied the body to North Powder.

Death of S.B. Burroughs

The death of S.B. Burroughs occurred in this city Monday night, December 26, 1904.

Deceased was 71 years and 8 months old and had been suffering poor health for several months.

Mr. Burroughs was a pioneer resident of Union county, having settled in Cove in 1864 where he resided until 1892 when he moved to Shaw Creek. In 1893, deceased moved to this city and in connection with his nephew, H.D. Spencer, engaged in the planing mill business but disposed of his interests in that institution several years since and had been manufacturing door and window frames until his health failed.

Deceased was of a jovial disposition and had many friends in this city, who with his loving wife are left to mourn his loss.

The funeral services were conducted at the family residence Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock and the interment took place in the city cemetery.

Death of Walter J. Burwell

Died-At his home in South Union, October 9, 1926, at 12:30 a. m., W. J. C. Burwell, age 72 years, 3 months and 8 days. The funeral took place from the Episcopalian church October 10, 1926. The services were conducted by Rev. Bradner of the Episcopalian church.

W. J. C. Burwell was born, June 30, 1854, in Placerville, Calif., where he lived until young manhood, when he did governmental work in Alaska, Canada and South America. He then came to Oregon remaining but a few years, after which he moved to San Francisco, Calif., where he resided until the time of his death.

He leaves a widow and one nephew who lives at Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Burwell had been ill for a number of months being finally confined to his bed until his death.

He was a conscientious member of the Episcopalian church.
