While visiting with a neighbor Mrs. John Brant was stricken with apoplexy, Monday, and died almost instantly following a second stroke.
Feeling about as usual Mrs. Brant went to call on Mrs. Jas. Anderson, and while visiting there suffered a stroke, but was brought to by Mrs. Anderson, and seemed to have recovered completely, as from a fainting spell. In approximately thirty minutes she felt faint again and advised Mrs. Anderson of it, who went to her aid immediately, but she passed away almost instantly. She did not complain of ill health at any time immediately preceding her sudden death, and members of her family and the community were greatly shocked when advised of her demise. On the day previous, members of the family visited with Mrs. Brant and she seemed in good health and good spirits.
Leah Hudkins was born July 31, 1856, and died April 13, 1925, being 68 years, 8 months and 13 days of age. She was married to John Brant, December 30, 1879, at Carthage, Illinois. To this Union were born seven children, six of whom, with their father, survive the deceased. They are Charles, William, Bert, John, Fred and Floyd Brant, all of this city except John of Canyon City and Fred of Turlock, Calif. All but the latter, who could not be reached, attended the funeral of their aged mother.
Mrs. Brant was a pioneer of this community, having come here with her husband and family in 1885, and was a resident of this community since that time. During her many years of residence here she made many friends who, with the widower and family, will miss her greatly.
Funeral services were held from the M.E. church, Friday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Ira J. McFarland, pastor of the church. Interment was made in the North Powder cemetery.
