Seven of Nine Children Survive; Dies at 87
Services for David S. Gover Sr., 87, of Richland, were conducted at
2 p.m. Monday, July 26, 1971 at the Methodist
Church in Richland.
The Rev. Russell Booher of Halfway officiated with interment following
in the family plot at Eagle Valley Cemetery
under the direction of the Beatty Chapel. Mr. Gover passed away
early on Friday morning, July 23 at St. Elizabeth
Community Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Gover was born on Feb. 20, 1884 at Bates County, Mo. the son of
William Louden and Rebecca Allen Gover.
He came to Eagle Valley with his parents when a small baby and lived
in Eagle Valley since that time where he had
engaged in the farming business. On Nov. 7, 1907 he was united
in marriage to Pearl Leno Thorp at Baker.
He is survived by four sons: Ronald H, of Summerville, David S. Jr.,
of Alicel, Clifford L, Jordan Valley and William
L. Gover of Richland; three daughters: Mrs. Marvin (Mary L.) Cropp
of North Powder, Mrs. Walter (Mattie)
Dethloff of Rainier, and Mrs. Melvin (Lura Jane) Heggie of Santa Ana,
Calif.; one sister: Mrs. Joe (Reba)
McPartland of Vale; 35 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and two
great great-grandchildren, and by
numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one
daughter: Evangeline E. Thomas, by one son:
Vester Gover and by his wife Pearl Leno Gover.
He was a member of the New Bridge Grange for many years.

Delora F. Gover
Delora F. Gover, 79, a former Imbler and Baker County resident who
taught school for many years in Eastern
Oregon, died Thursday in Provo, Utah.
A graveside funeral for Mrs. Gover will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the
Eagle Valley Cemetery at Richland.
Visitations for Mrs. Gover will be until 9 o'clock tonight at Gray's
West & Co. Pioneer chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave.,
Baker.
Mrs. Gover was born on Feb. 15, 1910, in Imbler to William Arthur and
Zelma Annie Westenskow Funk. She
spent her childhood and attended school in the Baker area.
She attended college at the University of Utah and Eastern Oregon State
College, receiving her lifetime teaching
certificate on June 10, 1930. On Nov. 18 1933, she married Vester
William Gover in Weiser, Idaho. He died in June
1957.
Mrs. Gover lived with her family at Wingville from 1936 to 1960 when
she moved to Utah to further her education,
graduating with a bachelor's degree in education in 1961. She
taught school in Rock Creek, Muddy Creek,
Sunnyside, Wallowa and Haines. After completing her education
in 1961, she spent many years teaching
remedial reading in the Utah school systems.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. She enjoyed studying and
gardening.
Survivors include three daughters, Zelma Louise Maness, of Baker, Bonnie
Jean Cole, West Jordan, Utah, and
Donna Kay Johnson, Orem, Utah; sons, Eugene Franklin Gover, Lehi, Utah,
Howard Dean Gove [Gover], Torrance
Calif., and Donald Ray Gover of Pleasant Grove, Utah; brothers, William
Funk, Baker, and Robert Funk, Bend; 23
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, her twin brother, an infant
grandson and an infant great-grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Co. Pioneer Chapel.

Services Friday
An illness of only a few days Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of
Vester William Gover, 47, farmer of the
Wingville district for 20 years.
Mr. Gover was stricken with what was later diagnosed as a rupture of
a major artery which caused abdominal and
circulatory complications.
He was born Sept. 17, 1909 in New Bridge, the son of David S. and Pearl
L. Thorp Gover. He attended schools at
the Baker Academy, at Sunnyside and Richland high school. He
was married Nov. 18, 1933 at Weiser to Delora
Funk.
Mr. Gover had farmed at Wingville for the past 20 years and had also
been an employee of the Oregon Lumber
Co., for the past 14 years.
He is survived by his widow Delora; by daughters Zelma Louise Gover,
Portland; Bonnie Jean Gover and Donna
Kay Gover, Baker; sons Eugene F. Gover with the U.S. Air Force in Tuscon
[Tucson], Ariz., Howard D. and
Donald R. Gover, Baker; his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. David S.
Gover, Forest Grove; sisters, Mrs.
Evangaline [Evangeline] Thomas, Hillsboro, Mrs. Mary Louise Croop [Cropp],
North Powder, Mrs. Mattie E.
Dethloff, Gaston, Calif.; brothers, Ronald H., Haines; David S. Jr.,
Clifford L., William L., Richland; numerous
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Beatty chapel with
Bishop Lawrence Hislop officiating.
Interment will be in the Eagle Valley cemetery at Richland.

Wilford L. Gover Jr.
Wilford Lovell Gover Jr., 66, Halfway, a longtime Pine Valley rancher,
died Thursday, July 1, 1982, at St. Elizabeth
Community Hospital.
A private family mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the St. Winifred
Catholic Church in Halfway. The Rev. Richard
Groves of St. Winifred Catholic Church will officiate. A graveside
service with friends invited will follow in the
Pine Haven Cemetery in Halfway.
Mr. Gover was born on Jan. 7, 1916, in Baker to Lovell and Nell
Love Gover. He was reared in Pine Valley and in
Eagle Valley. He married Helen Densley on Oct. 5, 1936, in Baker.
Mr. Gover was a Pine Valley rancher until his retirement in 1979.
He was an honorary member of the Future
Farmers of America and past president of the Baker County and Pine
Valley fairboards. He was a school board
member in 1964 and held offices on the Foothill and Posey Valley Ditch
Co. boards.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Halfway; three sons, Daniel
of Enterprise, Gary of La Grande and George of
Halfway; a half-sister, Barbara Barton of Halfway; his stepmother,
Velma Gover of Halfway; and five
grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Halfway Ambulance
Fund through Grays West & Co. Pioneer

Wilford Lovell Gover, Sr., 67, a resident of Pine Valley, died
Tuesday night at his home.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church in Halfway
with the Rev. Arthur Harriman and the Rev. Ed
Neuenfeldt officiating. Burial will be in Pine Haven Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday
as the casket will not be opened at the service.
Mr. Gover, son of William and Rebecca Gover, was born in Richland,
Ore., Jan. 31, 1893, attended schools in
Eagle Valley and business college in Salem. He moved to Pine Valley
in 1921 and operated his ranch there.
He was married to Velma Estes in Baker on Sept. 18, 1922.
Survivors are his widow; a son, Lovell Gover, Jr., and a daughter,
Barbara Barton, both of Halfway; two brothers,
Walter of Walla Walla, Wash., and David of New Bridge; a sister, Reba
McPartland of Richland; three grandsons;
one great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.

William Gover, Sr. Lifetime Resident Passes June 27
Funeral services for William Louden Gover, Sr., 55, of Richland, Ore.,
will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, June 30,
1972 at the Methodist Church in Richland. The Rev. Carroll McIntosh
of Redmond and Rev. Russell Booher of
Halfway, will officiate, with interment following in Eagle Valley Cemetery
under the direction of the Beatty Chapel.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers those who desire may make
memorials to the Oregon Heart Fund or to
the First Methodist Church of Richland, which can be done through the
Beatty Chapel. Mr. Gover passed away
at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital on Tuesday, June 27 after a short
illness.
Mr. Gover was born on Nov. 17, 1916 at Sparta, Ore., the son of David
S. and Pearl L. Gover. He attended Rock
Creek and Sunnyside grade schools, and was graduated from Eagle Valley
High School. He was united in
marriage on Nov. 17, 1938 in Weiser, Ida, to Mary Anna Saunders.
Mr. Gover was a prominent stockman and
rancher and had lived in Baker County for his entire lifetime.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Anna Gover of Richland, Ore.; 3 daughters,
Nancy Carol Gover of Richland, Julia
Ann Woods of Baker, and Elizabeth (Beth) Pearl Windhan [Windham] of
La Grande; one son, William Louden
Gover, Jr. of Richland; three sisters, Lura Jane Heggie of Santa Ana,
