Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 21, at 2 p.m. at St.
Stephens Episcopal Church with Pastor Jack Rody
officiating.
Adelene was born August 18, 1922 in Baker City, OR to Anna and
James Cropp. She married Omer F. George in
1940 on a Navajo Reservation in Arizona. They had three children
and were divorced in 1956.
Adelene worked for Congressman Al Ullman for twenty plus years.
First in Baker then in Salem where she ran his
district office. After retirement she returned to work for the State
of Oregon as an executive secretary for the
Workers Comp. Hearing Board retiring from there in 1987. On Sept. 4,
1993 she married Norman Hansen and
returned to Baker City to start a new life.
Adelene enjoyed family, friends, church and gardening. She was
a member of the Episcopal Church. While in
Salem she actively attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a member
of the Alter Guild. She was very
active politically and a member of the Jane Jefferson Club. She
received a personal invitation to John F.
Kennedy's inauguration and once flipped pancakes with Jimmy Carter
during his campaign. Adelene left a
message to all the loved to remember the three "F's": the most important
things in life - FAITH, FAMILY and
FRIENDS.
She is survived by her loving husband Norman Hansen of Baker city;
son, Bob George and wife, of Baker City;
one daughter Susan Schaan, of Hermiston, OR.; and a son, Bill George
of Kiezer, Or. Granddaughter, Amy Ann
Bieker, of La Grande, OR, grandson, Michael Schaan, of Baker City;
two great grandchildren and by step
daughter, Debbie Klassen and husband and son Charlie, sister Norma
[Norna] Sullivan, of Salem, OR; Mary
Stacey, of New Bridge, OR; Margaret Osborne, of Vancouver, WA; and
a brother, Marvin Cropp, of North
Powder, OR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Wilbur Cropp and sister Agnes Willitt [Willett].
