Oleena Hug

Mrs. Oleene Hug was born April 20th, 1832, in Slewswig, Sweswig Holstein, Germany. She was married to John Hug September (?), 1856, and would soon have celebrated their Golden Wedding. There was born to them nine children, five of them are still living. She had always been a true and faithful wife and loving mother. She died April 5th, 1904, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 17 days.

For 23 years, she, with the family, has lived on the same place near Summerville, which together they made very comfortable and homelike. Now when all seems complete her weary body is laid to rest and her soul goes to meet her Saviour, who has prepared a place for her in Heaven.

She lived a conscientious christian life, her former life being spent as a Luthern and the latter as a Baptist. She was well liked by all of her acquaintences, who with her husband and family, will miss her very much.

A large concourse of people attended the funeral services which were conducted by Rev. Carroll Ghent, pastor of the Elgin Baptist church.

Rudolph Hug, a well-known and pioneer resident of this county, died suddenly at his house on Pumpkin ridge Tuesday July 25, 1905. On the evening of his death he had been sitting on the porch with other members of his family talking over the events of the day. he left the porch and started for his bedroom and soon after reaching it he was heard to fall to the floor by a daughter who was in an adjoining room and who imediately went to her father's room to ascertain what was happening and found him dead. Deceased had not been feeling quite as well as usual but was in Elgin the day preceding his death, and his sudden demise was a shock to his family and many friends.

Rudolph Hug was born in Weininger, Switzerland, July 18, 1836 and was 69 years and 7 day old. On coming to this country he first settled in Utah, but in 1881 he came with his family to Union county, where he resided continuously until death.

Deceased was an industrious and upright man and was liked by all who knew him. Coming to this country in its infancy he, like others, toiled unceasingly to make for his dependent ones a home. He settled on the pine-clad hills west of Elgin and there by his untiring energy made for himself and family a beautiful and productive home. He was the father of eleven children, two of whom preceded him to the grave. Those left to mourn his loss besides his wife are sons, R.A., Chas., John, George and Al. Hug: daughters, Mrs. B.A. Hubers, Mrs. J.W. Stott, Mrs. Joe Becker, and Miss Rosa Hug.

The funeral services were conducted at the family residence by S.A. Parker Wednesday afternoon and the interment took place in the Summerville cemetery. A large concourse of people attended the last sad rites.
