Madge Ingram was killed and Jack Benson badly injured by a cave-in Wednesday while working in a tunnel about twelve miles from Homestead.

IRVING. - At Kamela, September 26, Dr. E.R. Irving, of La Grande, aged 45 years.
Mrs. Florence Irwin, life-long resident of Union County, died in a local hospital yesterday.
Funeral services will be held in the Daniels Funeral Home on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. H. J. Gernhardt will officiate and interment will be in Island City Cemetery.
Mrs. Irwin was born Jan. 26, 1888, in the Grande Ronde Valley, the daughter of Robert Thomas Childers and Mary Elizabeth Hyde Childers. She was the granddaughter of James Childers and Mary Jane McDowell Childers, who were among the first settlers in the valley. She married Sam Irwin Oct. 3, 1906. Prior to their retirement Mr. and Mrs. Irwin were farmers in the valley. They made their home at 2710 N. Birch.
Mrs. Irwin was a charter member of the Rebekah Lodge and a lifetime member of the Island City Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her widower, Sam Irwin of La Grande; one daughter, Mrs. Marion Stoddard; one nephew, Truman Irwin, Great Falls, Mont., three grandchildren; Gerald Lee Stoddard, with the Air Force in Japan, Mary Stoddard and Jeannie Stoddard, both of La Grande.

IRWIN: - At Joseph, September 20th, Noel N., son of M. and Sarah Irwin, aged 3 years.
Samuel Hugh Irwin, 80, a retired farmer formerly of La Grande, died following an extended illness, Friday, in a Portland hospital.
Funeral services will be held in the Daniels Funeral Home, Monday at 2 p.m. Bishops Vernon Bennion, Hermiston, and Henry Stoddard, Pendleton, of the LDS Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Island City Cemetery.
Mr. Irwin was born in Illinois, Oct. 22, 1879 and had been a resident of the La Grande and valley area most of his lifetime. In August of this year he went to live with his daughter in Hermiston.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Stoddard, Hermiston; one grandson, Gerald Stoddard, U. S. Air Force, Edinborough, Scotland; two granddaughters, Mary and Jean Stoddard, Hermiston; one great-great grandson, David Lee Stoddard, formerly of Edinborough; one sister, Mrs. Alfretta Turnidge, Portland; one brother, James Irwin, Portland; and other relatives and friends.

Luther B. Ison, senior judge of the Sixth Judicial district of Oregon, died at his residence in Baker City last Saturday evening after a lingering illness. The funeral took place on Monday afternon, Rev. R.M. driver, pastor of the Methodist church in Union officiating at the obsequies. The funeral took place from the residence of the deceased and the large throng of people gathered to pay a last tribute of respect to the dead, manifested the high estimation in which Judge Ison was held by the residents of Baker county and other places.
Mrs. A.E. Ivanhoe, prominent Eastern Oregon educator and resident of LaGrande for many years, passed away in Portland at the St. Vincent's hospital, Friday of last week.
Mrs. Ivanhoe has been seriously ill for some time but recently her condition improved slightly, giving hopes for her recovery. She was 72 years of age and had been school superintendent of Union county for 11 years, quitting that office only a few years ago.
