Death Claims Aged Citizen
David W. Martin, 95 Years Old, Calmly Passes Away.

The death of David W. Martin, occurred Saturday, Sept. 16, at the home of his grandson, John Young, north of this city.

Deceased was born in Berkley county, Virginia, Oct. 25, 1809, and at his demise had reached the rip old age of 95 years, 10 months and 21 days.

In the late 60's, he came to Oregon and settle in the Willamette valley where he was well and favorably known and resided there until 1903, when he moved to this section, making his home with his grandson, Mr. Young, up to his death.

The deceased was one of Oregon's pioneers. Despite the fact of his many years, up to a very few weeks of his death he was active, indeed. Even at the late county election, he was early at the polls and made known that he was a typical son of the south, having been a life-long and enthusiastic democrat. He leaves to mourn his loss two son, Charles Martin, of Palo Pinto, Texas: Jep Martin, of Willamma, Ore., and one one daughter, Mrs. M.A. Terry of Woodland, Cal.

The funeral services were held from the M.E. church, Monday by Elder G.E. Mayfield and the remains were interred in the city cemetery.

He had been for a car ride early in the evening and after arriving home had a coughing spell which resulted in his death some ten minutes later. He was a prominent young citizen of Union having lived at that place the greater part of his life. The deceased who was some where in the neighborhood of 30 years of age is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Martins, his wife and one brother Clark Martins all of Union.
