Mrs. Will Miller, prominent valley woman of the section between Island City and Cove, passed away about midnight last night at Hot Lake where she had been taken about two weeks ago to receive medical and probably surgical attention. It was found that an operation was necessary and this was performed Monday, but she did not rally from the ordeal.
Mrs. Miller, who was 57 years of age, was the wife of William Miller, a member of one of the pioneer families of the Grande Ronde valley. They had lived on the ranch in the Cove vicinity since their marriage in 1899. Besides her husband there are eight living children, Mrs. Edna Stedian and Leonard Miller, of Venice, Cal.; Arthur, of La Grande; Mrs. Adeline Harn, at home; Ward, of Cove; Howard, Glenn and Alice, at home. There are also two granddaughters, her mother Mrs. Myers, [sic - Mires] of Washington State; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Scott, of Portland, and Mrs. Vera Ragsdale, of Baker, and two brothers, Fred, of Robinette, and Walter, of Washington. Mr. Miller, five of the children residing in this valley and the sister, Mrs. Ragsdale, were with her at the time of her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock at the Snodgrass and Zimmerman mortuary. Burial will take place in the Summerville cemetery.
Clarence Miller, a former resident of Union, died of pneumonia, at Austin, Grant County, Oregon, Tuesday of this week. The body was brought to Union Wednesday night, and the funeral will take place from the undertaking parlors at 2 p. m. Friday under auspices of the Odd Fellows, of which order he was a member.
Clarence Miller was a young man raised in Union, and he married Miss Zylpha Skiff, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. O. J. Skiff, of Union, about a year and a half ago. To this union one child was born, which, with the mother, survives him.
Clarence Miller was 27 years and about one month of age.
The sympathy of many friends is extended to the bereaved wife and child and other relatives of the deceased.
Gilbert Miller, 68, died Wednesday at his home at Route 1, Cove.
He was the son of Ernest and Anna Miller, born October 28, 1906 in Union. Miller lived all of his life in the Cove and Union area.
He is survived by his wife Carmen of Cove and one brother, Richard of Alicel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at the Dempsey Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Cyril A. Stevens officiating.
Concluding services and interment will follow at the Summerville Cemetery.
Friends who wish may call at the Dempsey Funeral Chapel for viewing this evening and Saturday until 1 p. m.
Gilberta Ann Miller, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Miller, passed away at the family home in Lower Cove Thursday morning at 11:30 o'clock. She is survived by her parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Miller and Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Daniel. The funeral was held this morning at 11 o'clock at the grave in Summerville with Rev. Howard Smith in charge of the services. Burial took place in the family plot in Summerville cemetery. Walker's Funeral Service had charge of the arrangements.
COVE, Jan. 6. (Special) - Henry C. Miller, 65, of Portland, a brother of George Miller of this place, and Charles Miller of Burns, died suddenly at his home in Portland Friday, Dec. 30. Two nephews, John Miller and Lynn Chadwick were called from here to Portland.
The funeral services were held at the Summerville chapel, the W. H. Bohnenkamp company in charge and interment was made in the family lot at Summerville, the Rev. Mr. Pollard officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. George Miller left here two weeks ago to spend the remainder of the winter in California and visited this brother en-route, finding him in very good health at that time.
Howard Nicholas Miller, 86, of Union, died Tuesday, May 4, 1993, at Mountain Vista Care Center.
At his request, there will be no funeral service.
Mr. Miller was born on Nov. 25, 1906, at Alicel, to W. D. and Alice Mires Miller. On July 14, 1934, he married Fredrica Spain at Union. He was a logging foreman for Marbaitz Logging in Birney, Calif. The family moved to Union in 1974.
Survivors include this wife Fredrica of Union; daughters Niki Schubert and Gwen Prince of Union; brothers Art Miller of Anaconda, Mont., and Glenn Miller of Baker City; sister Alice South of Costa Mesa, Calif.; granddaughter Stephnie Weidma of Klamath Falls and grandson Cody Kellerman of Union.

Leonard L. Miller, 17 years of age, of Pleasant Valley, died in the Protestant hospital last Wednesday evening.
He was born in the Sutton creek section October 28, 1914 and spent practically all his life in Baker county, living for a short time with his parents in Union and in Idaho. His father is a Pleasant Valley farmer.
Leonard is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.L. Miller; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys McAllister of Union, Mrs. Sarah Riley of Baker and Mrs. Lizzie Sherman of Weiser; five brothers, Charles of Weiser, and Alfred, Robert, Hudson and Franklin, all of Pleasant Valley and his grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Taylor of Pleasant Valley.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in Baker and interment was in Mt. Hope cemetery.
On last Sunday morning a memorial service, in honor of the memory of Miss Lizzie Miller, was held at the Presbyterian church. There was a large attendaance of the young friends of the decased lady who had but a short time before mingled among them full of life and apparent happiness. Rev. M. Parker, the paster, delivered an appropriate discourse taking as his subject "The Flowers of Immortality."
Richard Nathan Miller, 65, of 2467 Gekeler Lane, died Thursday at the Grande Ronde Hospital.
Mr. Miller was born Dec. 14, 1913 at Lower Cove to Ernest E. and Anna (Gray) Miller. He graduated from La Grande High School. On Jan. 2, 1935 he married Veda Houx at Walla Walla. They farmed in the Cove area for many years.
Mr. Miller was a member of Cove Lodge No. 91 A. F. & A. M.; Grande Ronde Valley No. 20 Royal Arch Masons; Cherry Chapter No. 177 O. E. S. and B. P. O. E. No. 433 of La Grande. He was a past master of Mt. Fanny Grange No. 388.
He was active in the Union County Wool Growers and served as a director for the Tri-County Wool Pool, acting as president for two years.
Survivors include his wife of La Grande; uncle John C. Miller; aunts Mrs. Eugene Millering and Mrs. Lynn Chadwick; cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Miller of Cove.
Services are Monday at 1 p. m. at Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Hart of the First Christian Church and Cove Lodge No. 91 A. F. & A. M. officiating. Concluding services will follow at the Cove Cemetery.

William Dudley Miller, lifetime resident of the Grande Ronde Valley, passed away late Friday night at a local hospital. He was 93 years old.
He was born March 5, 1876, in La Grande, the oldest of nine children of George and Matilda (Conley) Miller. His parents were immigrants to Union County in 1874 and later resided in the Cove area.
Mr. Miller attended schools in Union County. When he was 22 he and his brother-in-law, John Smith, started farming by renting 800 acres from his father. This was located nine miles northwest of Cove.
He married Alice M. Mires on July 19, 1899. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1933.
He married Lillian Mixon on November 16, 1937 in Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Miller retired from active farming in 1944, leasing his farm and moving to La Grande. He has resided in La Grande since that time.
He was also preceded in death by 2 children, 2 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his wife Lillian Miller, La Grande; four sons, Ward, Union; Glenn, Baker, Arthur, Anaconda, Montana; and Howard, Burney, Calif.; three daughters, Edna Stedman, Santa Monica, Calif., Adeline Horne, Santa Monica, and Alice South, Venice, Calif.; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two brothers, John Miller, La Grande, and Benn Miller, Arcadia, Calif., three sisters, Mary Gray, San Carlos, Calif., Joisa Clark, Beaverton, and Georganna Chadwick, Cove; one step-daughter, Anna Seward, Leggette, Calif., two step-sons, John Sparks, Hartshorne, Okla., and Joe Sparks, La Grande.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel, Rev. Paul Jewell of the First Methodist Church will officiate. Concluding services will be at Summerville Cemetery.
Ward Miller of Union died Sunday, July 26, 1981 at his home. He was 77. Mr. Miller was Union County water master for 26 years, retiring in 1970.
He was born Aug. 21, 1903 at Alicel, the son of William D. and Alice (Miers) Miller. On Dec. 29, 1926 he was married to the former Thelma Murphy at La Grande.
Mr. Miller was a member of the La Grande Elks Lodge No. 433, and Grande Ronde Valley Lodge No. 56, A.F. & A.M., Union.
Survivors include his wife, of Union; brothers, Howard of Union; Glenn of Baker; Arthur of Anaconda, Mont.; sister Alice South of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Cove Cemetery with Rev. Jack Hart of First Christian Church officiating.
Friends may call at Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel today until 8 p.m.
