The Mitre's Touch Gallery is located in downtown La Grande, Oregon,
in what early Oregon Trail sojourners called, "the jewel of northeastern
Oregon", the beautiful Grande Ronde Valley. With a paradise backdrop
of
the Blue Mountains on the west and the Wallowa Mountains on the east,
local artists flourish in the inspiration of its landscape and wildlife.
Established in 1984, the Mitre's Touch Gallery began as a full-service
custom framing shop and retail art gallery offering an exhibit of
Northwestern framed art, prints, posters, gifts, books and Native American
jewelry. Over the years, the gallery expanded and relocated from its
original site to Adams Avenue, La Grande. Invited to join the gallery
in 1992, custom framer, Dave Yerges, managed its operation and continued
to serve the art community, designers, collectors and other clients.
In January of 2001, Dave and his wife, Trish, purchased the gallery
and now offer fine art publishing and photographic restoration services
to northeastern Oregon. As publishers, they are also pleased to present
the "Oregon History" line of photographic reproductions and local history
publications.
They are currently publishing the work of several local artists and
from a private collection of original Russian Childrens' art in open
edition prints. The gallery is also pleased to be home to Yasuyo Arts,
a collection of original Asian watercolors in traditional and contemporary
style by Yasuyo Folks, renown Tokyo watercolorist and Master Calligrapher.
The Mitre's Touch Gallery continues its tradition of hosting art shows
for local artists throughout the year and participating in the annual
Season's Faire art show hosted by the La Grande Arts Commission. Both
Dave and Trish are active volunteer writers for northeastern Oregon's
The Valley News in which they frequently feature local artist
profiles, art news and historic narratives.
