These are obituaries that I and many others have donated. Mine were transcribed from old newspapers. I got the microfilms through interlibrary loan from the University of Oregon. There are also many others who have donated. If there is no contributor on it, it is something I have transcribed. If there is no link on the contributor's name, they have no further information about that person. It is someone extra on a copy of their families information.

If you have any obituaries you can donate, please drop a line to Janine M. Bork.Your information can help others.

Pioneer Settler Dies of Illness

Mrs. Lettie Alice Pratt, 78, who came by ox-team to the Grande Ronde valley 75 years ago, died Tuesday, June 22, at the Grande Ronde hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Pratt was the daughter of Charles and Sallie Hamilton, pioneers here. She lived all of her life in the valley. She grew up in the colorful early west days, with many frontier experiences to relate. She had lived through two Indian raids. From one of these, the family fled to the pioneer fort formerly located on the old Young place.

Lettie Hamilton married Walter E. Pratt October 13, 1888. Two children were born to them - Earl and Alta Pratt. Earl Pratt died in infancy. Alta Pratt now is Mrs. G. E. Howell, with whom her mother lived on the family farm.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Howell, Mrs. Pratt is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Sallie) Gray of Bend, and Mrs. Hattie Wright of Joseph; one grandson, Lyle M. Howell of Alicel, and a large number of nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Pratt was a member the Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Snodgrass funeral home and burial will be in the Summerville cemetery.
