These pages are dedicated to those who came before us.
Once written, their names will not be forgotten. In the words of Rick Steber,
they are the heartwood from which our family tree grows.

Don't forget to check Wallowa County. Many of the families are
found in both counties.

About the Oregon GenWeb Project

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky
Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry
point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored.
In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even
if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection
of databases and generally oversee the contents of the webpage. The Oregon
GenWeb Project is an extension of the KY GenWeb Project. The person responsible
for Union County is Janine M. Bork. Please contact me if you have a desire to add
your data to the database. Please put Union County in the subject line.

History of Union County

Union county was established on October 14, 1864. It was formerly part
of the north end of Baker county. This was during the Civil War days. The settlers
were almost equally divided on North/South sympathies but theytook a vote and
decided to name the county Union in support of the cause of the Union.

Union county boundary changes occurred February 11, 1887 (when Wallowa county
was formed), and in 1901 when a portion of the county (called the Panhandle) was
transferred to Baker county.

Union county's neighbors are:

Baker County, Baker City

Grant County, Canyon City

Umatilla County, Pendleton

Tom Kassinger has sent a couple of pictures of Holdman, Umatilla county.
One is of a century farm in the Holdman family.

I have moved my own information to the American Genealogy
and History Project. I will continue to be dedicated to
placing free on-line information on that site.
