Auditor's Office:
Marriage licenses and marriage returns are $1 each
or $3 if certified.
When looking up marriages, be sure to ask the Clerk if
there is a Marriage
Return. Not all licenses have them, but from about
1895 to 1920's, the
return included name of bride and groom, residence, occupation,
place of
birth; parents with place of birth; witnesses; date of
application, date of
marriage, & person performing ceremony.
Land records - $1 per page uncertified.
County Court Clerk's Office -
Probates, Divorces, Court Proceedings - $2 for first
page of document. $1
per page for remaining pages in document. All records
obtained from the
County Court Clerk must be certified.

Library has a Genealogy Section which also includes books
owned by the Walla
Walla Valley Genealogical Society. The Society's
books are not listed in the City Library catalog.
Their is a notebook in the Society's section that lists
their library holdings.
The City Library also has a collection of old and rare
books that are kept
behind the check-out counter. May be researched
by asking one of the
employees permission to view them. City Directories
from early 1900 to
present are located by the collection of area telephone
books.

Whitman is a repository for Pacific Northwest History.
Their collecttion
includes local area history, Washington, Oregon,
Idaho and Montana in the
Pacific Northwest History Collection. Library holdings
are on computer.
They also have archived material which requires special
permission to view.
Larry Dodd is Curator of the Pacific Northwest and Archives
Collection. If
you want to view information in the Archives it would
be appropriate to make
an appointment with Mr. Dodd prior to arriving at the
Whitman Library.
On the main floor of the library they have newspapers
on microfilm. Some of
the newspapers included are Walla Walla, Waitsburg, Dayton,
Spokane,
Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon.
Parking at Whitman College is limited. The parking
lot nearest the library
is located on Park Street next to Sherwood Center.

Library is located at end of the church near the entrance
from Second
Street. Doors are locked for security. There
is a bell system at the door.
The Family History Center has computers, cd's, microfische,
microfilm,
books. Most of the early census records for Walla
Walla County are on
permanent loan. The Center also has the Washington
State Death Records
starting in 1907, as well as the Social Security Death
Index. Their
collection is under the Dewey Decimal System. Their
card catalog is
arranged so that you may search by subject, surname or
book title and
authors.
The Walla Walla Valley Genealogical Society has a collection
of books, cd's
& microfilm shelved at the Family History Center.
The Society's books are
included in the card catalog.
