WALLOWA COUNTY VETERANS OF WORLD WAR II

It's A Grand Old Flag
Click on the above for music

Most of this information was taken from the Winter, 1997 issue of Signal Mountain magazine with the permission of Bill and Mary Rautenstrauch. I have every one of their magazines and they are worth every penny, I can't say enough about them.

According to Mary, they recorded over 400 names. There were almost 800 men who served in World War II from Wallowa County. If you have family that served and are not listed here, I would like to add their names to the list. This is the time-line when the men departed for the war. The induction centers were in Portland and Spokane. When the draft was first started the ages for registration were between 21 and 36. As the war continued and took it's toll the age requirement changed to ages 18 through 65.

If you have any letters from your loved ones, please send a copy to me at: Janine M. Bork. Besides being fun to read, they are historic documents that should be passed on.
