1. BROWNFIELD CEMETERY FAYETTE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA

In South Union Township, Fayette County, about one fourth of a
mile southwest of Brownfield Station, is the ancient home of
Benjamin Brownfield Sr. Here his son "Ben" was born and was
known throughout Fayette County as "Colonel Ben". Here he lived
from childhood to a centenarian, and died at the age of one
hundred years and seven months.

The old family burying ground located about two hundred yards west
of the old homestead is a plot of ground forty-five by fifty feet.
It is surrounded by a stone wall about two feet high, topped with
a cap block on which is mounted four foot hand made iron picket
fence. The tops of the pickets are held by a blacksmith pinched
iron rail through which they are inserted, and the bottom of each
picket is doweled into a drilled hole in the cap rock and leaded in.
A very substantial job three quarters of a century ago, but in 1934
is hopeless ruin. (1956 the fence is gone) The enclosure contains
sixteen inscribed stones and numerous other which are not marked
only by fieldstones.
