Preface

After consulting every available authority, and perusing every obtainable record, we have tried to trace in detail, in the following pages, the history of the Mifflinburg Lutheran Congregation from the time of the settlement of this Valley to the present date.

We believe that from the Baptismal Records contained in the appendix, which are the oldest existing church records in Buffalo Valley, as well as from the lists of communicants, taken from later records, many will be able to trace their ancestry to those sturdy German immigrants, who were among the early settlers in this community. These men and women crossed the seas to escape religious persecution, and they brought with them the religious faith in which they had been instructed in their youth. Their love for the Church prompted them to organize a Lutheran Congregation soon after they had settled in this Valley. Our own congregation is an off-spring of that organization.

We should prize highly what our forefathers have handed down to us, and strive in every way to perpetuate this heritage.
