Directions: From the corner of W. Main Street and Harrison Street in Franklin, take Hwy. 28 toward Bryson City. Go about 2 1/2 miles. Turn left onto Airport Road. Go 2.4 miles until the road dead-ends. Turn left onto Olive Hill Road. Go about 1.6 miles. Turn right onto the gravel road which is just past Olive Hill Gospel Chapel; this road is marked by a sign which reads "Wilkes Cemetery". Go about 1/10 mile to the cemetery at the end of that road.
Notes: Numbers 14, 15, and 16 were squeezed together into the spot where normally only one, or perhaps two small, graves would go. In the rough "map" below, the road leading to the cemetery ends at about number 08, with the cemetery extending to the right of the road.
The following record reflects the actual writing on the tombstone. The graves were laid out (approximately) and surveyed as follows:
