There are other transcriptions of the 1800 Census of Pendleton Dist., SC online. However, the most notable one (housed in the USGenWeb Archives for South Carolina) is alphabetized, thereby ruining any possibility of using the neighbors of one's ancestors to further research said ancestor. That census is still quite useful. Both census transcriptions should be used in conjunction with one another to research one's ancestry.

I will be indexing the census as I go, although any index will not be placed online until after all the census pages are transcribed. Also, when all the census pages are online, I will place a search engine on this page for researchers who prefer search engines over indices. It may take several months to completely transcribe this census.

Some sections of this census were, for one reason or another, hard to read or completely illegible. Those sections are marked by ? or *, and/or are enclosed in brackets [ ]. If a numerical entry consisted of more than one digit, I enclosed it in parentheses ( ).

This census was transcribed from digital copies of the microfilmed census. Every effort has been made to insure that the transcription reflects a true and accurate copy of the original. Questions and comments may be directed to D&C Research Group.
