—o— Residents Here 52 Years; Mr. and Mrs. John Hubbard, residents of Clark County for the past fifty-two years, were presented with a gift of 96 new one dollar bills last Friday in honor of their sixty second wedding anniversary. The gift was sponsored by the Clark Commercial club and included individual donations from residents and business men of the town. The presentation was made by W. C. Brower and a committee that surprised Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard in their home Friday noon. Following the giving of the purse, Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard were induced to come outside and have their pictures taken, C. H. Miller having brought his camera along with him. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard were married in Ellington, Iowa, sixty two years ago and lived there for about a year and a half and then journeyed to Minnesota by covered wagon, living at Deercreek until 1883 when they again traveled by covered wagon, this time to Dakota territory. They filed on a homestead north of Clark and lived there about aix years and then moved to their present residence in Clark where they have been living for the past 46 years. Six children are living and one daughter died about two years ago. The living sons and daughters are: Wesley of Clark; Mrs. Ray Audus, who lives eighteen miles north of Clark; Charles of Lodge Pope; Mrs. M. Elliott, Saskatoon, Can.; Clifford, Fresno, Calif.; and Mrs. John Otter of Moscow, Ida. There are twenty six grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard are both in the best of health. "Haven't been sick a day in fifty years" is Mr. Hubbard’s record. On thi day of his anniversary surprise he was out shoveling paths through the 15 inch snow that had fallen the day before. Mrs. Hubbard does all her own work and still finds time to take care of her fine collection of house plants, enjoy the radio and visit with friends. Mr. Hubbard’s eightieth birthday was last Sunday, April 7. Mrs. Hubbard was 80 years old Jan. 7. Mrs. Hubbard was born in Crown Point, N. Y., and Mr. Hubbard is a native of Iowa. The industry and perseverance of Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard have been commented upon by all who know them. At an age when most people are content to sit around and rest Mr. Hubbard still continues to make gardens and perform any work which he can find to do around town. The pride and respect that the whole community feels in this fine o1d couple were reflected in the gift so gladly given them on their anniversary. |
