Clara Belle Camp, Pennington county, South Dakota

Mentioned in Frank Herbert's 40 Years Prospecting and Mining in the Black Hills of South Dakota.Clara Belle Camp sprang up around the Clara Belle Mine in the 1880s, about 1/4 mile south of St. Elmo Peak. You can still see the ruins of the mine, the Golden Arrow, and several cabins. You can also see earlier workings along the northern edge of Bear Creek, approximately 1 mile east of Orevill. This area was also known as St. Elmo.
