Igloo was once a military town. It got it's name from the many "igloos" that surround the town. Military guns, ammunition, tanks, etc. were stored here. Igloo was considered a "sister" town to Edgemont. It's boom was during WWII. The old hotel, which is still standing, is very big and beautiful and was famous throughout Fall River county for hosting wild Saturday night parties. The town is still very fascinating. Over half of the original public buildings are still standing and in good condition. The private residences are no longer standing, but you can still see the streets and remnants of where they once stood. The town slowly died when the military moved out after the war.

A handful of residents remain. Many old buildings are left, including a school, church, couple of houses, bunkers, hotel, fire station, theatre, and swimming pool.
