Interior is the most populated ghost town on the old Milwaukee Railroad line that runs between Kadoka and Rapid City. The town existed from 1907 until the 1930’s when the Dust Bowl hit the region and drove people away. The abandonment of the railroad in 1980 contributed to more loss of industry.

A gas station, post office, several houses, and a fork in the road are all that remain. If you want the world’s best Indian fried bread, stop in Interior. Located approximately two miles outside Badlands National Park. There are several campgrounds and an abandoned railroad crossing.
