The site of a 1930s era Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp is on US 16/385 just north of the Pennington Co. line, 5.3 miles south of Hill City. The Oreville CCC Camp was active in the mid 1930s, and housed as many as several hundred people. On the west side of the highway a half-mile north of the historic marker is an abandoned, weather-beaten beryllium processing mill building. This is all that remains of Oreville, a small 1890 tin-mining town that never amounted to much.
