The town was founded in 1877 and sits atop the mountain between Lead and Central City, next to the open cut of the Homestake mine. At its peak, the town had a population of close to 700 and a total of 220 stamps were working at the time. The town has dwindled but still is worth a visit for it has less level ground than any other community in the Hills. Those that still live there do there shopping in Lead, walking through the underground mine workings which the Homestake keeps shored up and lighted for their convenience. Best way to reach Terraville is to go to either Lead, or, preferably Central City, and ask for directions.
