James Murfree [Murphy, now current spelling] was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1821. He died in Cannon Co.Tn. aft. Jly 7 1870-bef 1880*. Burial place unknown. James married about 1855 Elizabeth Manus Brown born 1822 in Warren Co. She died after 1880 in Cannon Co. Elizabeth was the daughter of David Manus & Victoria Kirby of Cannon Co. She was the widow of Issac Brown of Warren Co. She is buried in Cannon Co. Burial place unknown.

*James is listed in district 5, 1870 Cannon Co., TN  census. Elizabeth is in 5th district in 1880 without James. Dau Maggie is living with her and they are listed in dwelling next to her son Timothy.

It appears that this couple are in dwelling 79 in 1880 census - Timothy and mother are in dwelling 80 & 81 next page. Ellen Manus age 18, shows her father was born in Ireland.
