Stones Reset by the Union County Cemeteries Association |
|
Anna Lane made a donation for the resetting of the military marker of A. J. Heninger. After years of the cemetery being neglected, the marker was almost buried in the ground. It was taken up and reset by Union County Cemeteries Association members. The grave is in Henegar Cemetery located in the Chuck Swan W.M.A. The Henegar Cemetery was also cleaned and sprayed. |

Cemetery Photography by Leon Graves |

This before and after picture is of a cleaning of old headstones. Front left is the grave of Rachel Melvina Whited and to the right is that of her husband George Washington Browing. Back center is the marker for Claiborne Preston Whited and his wife Lucinda Lowry Whited, the parents of Rachel. C.P. and Lucinda's remains were moved on January 28, 1935 from Big Barren Cemetery #5 located in Claiborne County and G.W. Browning's on January 4, 1935 from Browning Cemetery #7 in Union County. All of this relocation was done by the Tennessee Valley Authority during the construction of Norris Dam. Rachel died a little over six years latter in 1941. All are in Big Barren Memorial Cemetery. |

Would you like to fund the future needs of our Union County cemeteries - or a cemetery
in particular? If so, this can be done in one of the following ways: |
|
1. Send the gift to the Union County Cemeteries Association |
|
2. Send the gift to the
Union County Cemeteries Association designated for a specific cemetery |
|
3. If the cemetery is set
up to receive such gifts, send the gift to the treasurer of the
cemetery |
|
Many times people would like to be honored or have a special occasion commemorated by a lasting gift. Contributions to a memorial fund can produce earnings, and therefore usable funds to maintain the graves of your loved ones for years to come. We urge everyone to honor the lasting memory of those who have helped us to be where we are in life by supporting the maintenance of our Union County cemeteries. |

Recently volunteers have agreed to clean several cemeteries in need of attention.
These volunteers include individuals of families who are descendents of those
buried in the cemeteries. In one case, the property owners will adopt and clean the
cemetery on their property. These cemeteries include McBee, Old Brogan, and Bayless. |
