1-13-1923 | 9-23-2004 | b. Winfield KS Cowley co, d Wichita, S/O Frank B. and Nelle Radcliff of Cedar Vale, KS. His father was a prominent Ford dealer and rancher. He had one brother, Frank Jr., who preceded him in death. Mr. Radcliff attended Cedar Vale schools and enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from Aviation Cadets at Luke Field, Phoenix, AZ and was commissioned a second lieutenant. He subsequently completed fighter training and qualified in the P-51 Mustang, the premier fighter aircraft of WWII. His brother, Frank also a fighter pilot, was highly decorated in the European Theater. Mr. Radcliff flew for almost 40 years, logging thousands of flight hours in dozens of different aircraft types. Following the war, Mr. Radcliff marketed agricultural products for several years. In 1958 he and Byron Radcliff, his uncle, purchased Valentine Manufacturing in Wichita and operated the company for many years. In the mid 1960's Mr. and Mrs. Radcliff entered the crop irrigation business in Western Kansas, Colorado and finally in central Florida. In 1971 they founded Tampa Machinery Auction in Tampa, FL. The company became the largest regularly scheduled machinery auction in the southeast United States. They operated the company for 30 years until retiring to Wichita in 2001. Mr. Radcliff was a member of Albert Pike Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Midian Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters, the American Legion, the Air Force Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and Friends of American Fighter Aces. |
