Brenton, John P. 9-1-1923 3-16-2005 b. Eureka ks greenwood co, d. Topeka  shawnee co, S/O Earl & Lena Brenton. He attended the Lapland School and Eureka High School and worked on the family farm until he joined the US Army at the end of WW II. He served in the 11th Airborne Division during the occupation of Japan. He then returned to Eureka where he worked for Straight Motor Company before joining the Kansas National Guard full time in 1948. He served in the National Guard for 38 years in various capacities at Eureka, Abilene, Manhattan and Topeka. In 1961, he was recalled to active duty at Fort Riley during the Berlin Crisis. He retired from the National Guard with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 in September of 1983. He was an avid mechanic, and all around handyman for family and friends. He was also active in his community and church, and spent considerable time helping raise his grandchildren. He married Mary Jane Brenton on June 3, 1945 in Eureka. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2003. He was also preceded in death b two sisters, Alta Keith and Lola Bailey; and three brothers, George, Frank and Charles (Chig) Brenton.
Cook, Bradley A. 5-11-1968 6-2005    b. Eureka ks Greenwood co, d. Abilene Ks Dickinson co, "Brad," 37, died in a flash flood near Abilene, KS. He was born in Eureka on May 11, 1968, the son of Jerry and Elvira (Dosdal) Cook. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka Jr./Sr. High School with the class of 1986. Moved to El Dorado where he owned and operated B.A.C. Building and Repair. Brad was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Eureka.
Eckley, Thomas, Sr. 8-5-1945  2-10-2006 b. Los Angeles CA Los Angeles co, d. Townada ks Butler co, S/O Richard and Mary B. (Steele) Eckley.
Walford, Phillip Jay
11-19-1921 1-29-2005 b. Climax KS  greenwood co, d. Eureka ks greenwood co, S/O Earl J. and Dortha (McCombs) Walford. He was raised in rural Eureka and attended local schools. After graduation, Phillip served his country with honor and dignity, in the United States Army during World War II, in the European Theater. He was wounded in combat, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart and was captured and held in a German prisoner of war camp. On June 22, 1947, Phillip was united in marriage to Alma A. Wade in Eureka, where they made their home. After he was discharged, he worked for Bush and Parks Motors until he started Eureka Termite Control in the early 1960's. In addition to the pest control business, he raised cattle, until his retirement in the mid 1980's. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Eureka and was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Walford, Alma A.
7-1-1925 2-19-2005 b.  Piedmont ks greenwood co., d.  Eureka ks, D/O Oliver F. and Sarah E. (Moore) Wade. She was raised in Piedmont and attended local schools. Later she moved to Eureka, where she owned and operated her own restaurant, as well as worked for various places including Sears, Winfrey's Furnishings and Barkman Jewelers. On June 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Phillip Jay Walford in Eureka. He preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 2005. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
