Brazda, Alfrieda M. 12-20-1914 8-20-2005 b. Rush co ks, d. Great Bend ks Barton co, D/O Joseph W. and Marie Brauner Brazda. A lifetime rural Timken resident, she was a farmer and had worked at Al's Place. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph W., Elmer, Emil, William J. and Irvin; and a sister, Sophia Elliot.
Brown, Ned M. 10-3-1918 1-1-2006 b. Larned ks Pawnee co, d. Larned ks, S/O Ned McKinley and Mary Jane Kimmel Brown. A lifetime Larned resident, he worked for Doerr Mercantile, retiring as the retail sales manager. He belonged to First Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Jordaan Committee, all in Larned. He served as the Larned mayor for two terms. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Bobbie Lee Brown. Military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Campbell, Dorothy Lee  3-12-1916 11-24-2005 b. Vici OK Dewey co, d. colorado Springs Co El Paso coD/O William Edgar and Elzora Mae Lyons Moore. A resident of Larned from 1953 to 2002, she moved to a nursing facility in Colorado Springs to be near family.
Coleman, Mary C. 2-5-1926 12-13-2005 b. Rozel ks Pawnee co, d. Hutchinson ks Reno co, D/O Edward and Gertrude Sibley Newman, and very special foster parents Henry and Florence Hoover. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Coleman Jr.; and a brother, Charles Newman.

Dwyer, Donald E. 10-24-1917 9-20-2005 b. Cherryvale ks Montgomery co, d. Kinsley ks Edwards co, S/O James E. and Ruth Valk Dwyer. A longtime Kinsley resident, he was an equipment operator for the city of Kinsley. He had served with the Kansas Army National Guard.  On Dec. 27, 1939, he married Thelma M. Smith in Rozel. She died July 20, 1998.
Ellis, Larry Gene 5-8-1942 9-30-2005 b. Nekoma Ks Rush co, d. Larned ks Pawnee co, S/O Harry A. and Beulah Eilts Ellis. A longtime Rozel resident, he was a barber and trucker. He belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 3272, both in Larned, and the Rozel Lions Club.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leroy.
Hall, Roland D. 5-20-1933  9-21-2005 b. Larned ks Pawnee co, d. Great Bend ks Barton co, Ron S/O Earl C. and Louise King Hall. He graduated from Larned High School in 1952. A lifetime resident of Larned, he was a photographer and owner and operator of the Chicken House Restaurant, Larned, until 1998.  He belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran from 1953 to 1957.

Niemeyer, Nicholas Paul

 

6-24-1982 7-30-2005 b. Larned ks Pawnee co, d. Phillipsburg ks Phillips co, Died as a result of an automobile accident. S/O Morris Jennings and Norma C. Niemeyer. A lifetime Larned resident, he was a tack driver for Venture Corporation.
McPherson, Clmytene Marie 1-7-1940 7-14-2005 b. ks, Born in McAlester, KS, died of illness due to renal failure. Marie, as she was known to by friends, graduated from Wallace County Community High School in 1958, and then entered nurses training. Marie graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Hays, KS on Aug. 23, 1961. After marrying Alvin McPherson in June of 1962, she moved to Scott City, KS, where they started their family. Marie worked at the Scott City Hospital as a nurse, until the family moved to Wichita, KS in the spring of 1966. Always having a strong religious foundation, the family became members of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Marie continued her nursing career at the dermatology clinic of Dr.'s Gray and Chard. After the death of her husband in 1972, Marie moved her family to Larned, KS and raised her children in home based on faith in God and love of family.
Pinkston, Melvin D. 11-9-1927 9-8-2005 b. Radium KS Stafford co, d. Hutchinson ks reno co, S/O Ira and Oma Bennett Pinkston. He graduated from Radium High School. A resident of Hutchinson since 1961, he was a retired custodian for USD 309. He served in the U.S. Army. On Aug. 28, 1955, he married JoAnn Chlumsky at Hutchinson. She died July 22, 1986. Graveside service with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  
Roper, Beuford T. 4-20-1916 7-11-2005 b. Hutchinson ks reno co, d. Topeka ks Shawnee co, S/O Charles W. and Nellie Nevada Coker Roper. He spent his childhood at Atchison. He graduated from Kansas State College, with a BS in Instrumental Music and graduated from the University of Kansas with a Masters Degree of Music Education. He taught instrumental music at the elementary, secondary and junior college level at Langdon, Hoxie, Neodesha and Garden City before moving to Larned in 1965, where he was the owner and operator of Roper Music Company until 1983. He was director of the Neodesha City Band, playing trumpet in the city bands at Garden City and Great Bend, the Barton County Kix Band an the Jay Bennett Dance Band. He adjudicated high school music festivals at the league and state levels in Kansas and Oklahoma, and was a frequent player of "Taps" at funerals. He belonged to the First United Methodist Church, the church choir, Larned Kiwanis Club from 1965 to 2003, serving as President in 1972, and was Lt. Governor of Division 8 of Kansas Kiwanis from 1987 to 1988. He was a lifetime member of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA). In 1986, the Kansas Bandmasters' Association honored him as an Outstanding Contributor to Music Education, with special mention of his mentoring of young music teacher. He served in the US Army, during World War II at the Philippines as a bugler and bugle instructor. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lt. Charles E. Roper; and a sister, Virginia Pauline Roper.
Williams, Charlene C. 10-24-1927 1-18-2006 b. Cresco IA Howard co, d. Great Bend ks Barton co, D/O Charles "Sam" and Clara E. VanDan Acker Wonsetler. She was a graduate of Larned High School in 1945. A resident of Great Bend since 2000, formerly of Hutchinson and Larned, she was a secretary at the Larned State Hospital, until retiring in 1980. On July 22, 1947, she married William Oetken in Albert. He died Dec. 1, 1968. She later remarried. She was preceded in death by: two sons, Kevin and David Oetken; two brothers, Robert and Remigius "Bud" Wonsetler; and two sisters, Savanah and Lavita Wonsetler.
