Edwards, Margaret Ellen 4-12-1913 10-18-2005 b. Neosho Rapids ks Lyon co, d. El Dorado ks Butler co, D/O George William and Anna Agnes Whittington Hamman. She graduated from Madison High School and earned a bachelor degree in teaching at Emporia State Teachers College. Mrs. Edwards began her teaching career at a country school near Bushong in 1938 and taught at several different schools in Kansas before retiring in 1988. She was youth director in the First Christian Church in El Dorado for many years in the 1950's and 60's, and also directed church camps. Teaching children was her passion and calling. She taught not only from books, but by providing experiences for her students as well. She once took 25 first graders on an overnight camping trip, teaching them the joys of setting up camp, building a fire, sleeping in the outdoors and waking to breakfast cooked over an open fire. Margaret's most loved recreation was camping and she continued to camp until as late as 2003. She organized family reunions and chronicled the family in photographs using her box camera from 1927 to the present. She also had a computer and emailed family and friends regularly.
