Brohammer, Harold J.  4-7-1918 1-19-2006 b. Douglas co KS, d. Baldwin City ks Douglas co, S/O John Fredrick and L. Artis (Metsker) Brohammer. He grew up and attended grade school in rural Willow Springs. He worked for his father from 1933-40. He planted, cultivated and harvested wheat, oats and small grains, raised cattle, hogs and poultry for market and home. He served our country during WWII. He entered into active duty Dec. 23, 1940. He attained the rank of Tech. Sgt. in the 137th Infantry, 35th Division of the US Army. He was Platoon Sergeant of the of a heavy mortar crew in France, Luxemborg, Belgium and Germany. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal and American Defense Service Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 12, 1945. He was united in marriage to Marie E. Hornberger on Dec. 9, 1952 at the St. John's United Church of Christ. They shared over 53 years of marriage. He retired from farming in 1982. He was a longtime member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, member of the VFW, Ottawa Memorial Post No. 5901, and the Lloyd Beaton Post No. 228 American Legion Baldwin City. He served on the Willow Springs Township Board and the School Board. He enjoyed organic gardening and read veraciously. Preceded in death by brother, Benjamin and sister, Pearl Stoebener.
