DEBATE

E. B. Shaw, Coach

In placing Mr. Shaw as coach of the High School Debating teams the school is well pleased. Mr. Shaw is an able man havingmuch experience in debating and he will undoubtedly bring out the best in the teams and lead them through a successful season.

Self expression is the ultimate aim of all practical thinking. This is an accomplishment which is rarely natural but must be acquired and encouraged by constant practice. It is for these reasons that forensic work of all kinds is encouraged and supportd by the faculty and students.
Generally speaking, the basis for successful work in debating lies ina high school's literary societies. There, as in no other place, men receive inspiration and training for forensic work. The literary societies of C.R.H.S. are strong organizations and are doing practical work for the forensics of the school. Work in debating in C.R.H.S. is exceptionally complete and well balanced. It includes inter-school debates and inter-society debates. At the school tryouts thirteen men took part. Buel Weare gain first place and Donald Bleakley second. The following men were placed in the order named, Frederick Seely, Alvin Keyes, Horace Butterfield, Millard Douglass with William Shirer and Charles Simon as alternates. From this choice the debating teams of the school comprise the same mebers as those of the Alpha Rho and Kappa Phi Tau Societies. These men were all primed to do their best and supported Mr. Shaw in his efforts to round the teams into shape.
