Town of Springfield

The town of Springfield was established when, on August 20, 1761, by Benning Wentworth, Governor of New Hampshire, granted the charter for Springfield. The first meeitng of Springfield proprietors was held in the home of Gideon Lyman, in Northampton, MA, on October 13, 1761. Most of the original proprietors were from either Northampton or Portsmouth, NH.
