The labels on the big bags tell the story of the significance of this scene. How that legion of Americans did consume the staff of life! French girls are sacking 416 loaves of bread, 322nd Bakery Camp, near Dijon, France.
 
WHAT A PARTY
This was the largest mess kitchen to be established in France. It was located at Base Section No. 5, Brest, under the command of Capt. Shea, Q. M. C. On this occasion, October 29, 1918, 5,900 men were fed in 55 minutes.
