THE DANCE OF FIRE
A patrol of 166th Inf., 42nd Div., in Villers-sur-Fere, July 30, 1918, sniping at enemy machine gun nests. Machine gun units, manned by strong-hearted Germans, were left to protect the retreat to the Hindenburg line and check the American advance. Most of these gunners died at their posts.
